Day #48 & #49 - Wind. Wind. Go Away.

Day #48 - We biked with the, Bike The US For MS, group again today. We have had a great time biking together the past few days. Everyday around noon the winds grew fierce and most of the time it was at our side creating a side-wind. After a few hours it changed into a head-wind and finally, near the end of the trip, it switched into tail-winds, which we enjoyed the most. Nevada is almost like Kansas, you see the same thing all day long......nothing.

Cameron got a flat tire today. So. We fixed it. Then Cameron, Leland, Rachel and I biked a few miles down the road and found another biker with a flat. After they had fixed their tire we all biked the rest of the way together.

[In the back is Cameron, fixing his tire. Sitting down is Leland, supporting Cameron] We biked 70 miles today. Y'all may be wondering why the milage has dropped. It's because the distance between cities in Nevada is only so far, but tomorrow we will be biking 110 miles. We are staying in Austin, Nevada, where we are camping out tonight. It's supposed to drop down into the 40's tonight :). It'll be exciting. After dinner, while walking back to our tents, we saw rabbits in our campsite eating our trash. Texas has raccoons.......Nevada has Rabbits. I'm combining yesterday's blog with today's blog because I didn't have service last night.
[P.S. I made two posts last time. One labeled Day #47, and the other with a picture of a Pancake Sign... Some people thought it was confusing so I wanted to clarify]

Day #49 - We set off this morning at 7 a.m. to beat the wind. It didn't work. By 2 p.m. we were fighting strong headwinds, so strong it would push us backwards if we stopped peddling. On the bright side, we biked by a few Naval Bases today. Jets were flying in and out of the stations all day.... It was the coolest thing ever. Riding in a jet is definitely on my list of things to do before I die! :P We biked 111 miles today. Tomorrow Cameron and I are starting at 5:15 to avoid the wind, it was pretty miserable to bike through today and we'd rather wake up early than bike through it again. The rest of the group is leaving around the usual time and will meet us in California. We'll be entering California tomorrow! The last state before having biked the country :).

  2. Hi Stephen,
I can understand your frustration with the wind. While we were canoeing in the Boundary Waters, the wind was both our enemy and friend. A few times it blew so hard, waves were coming over into our canoe. Another time we used our dining fly to make a sail, connected our canoes together, sat back and enjoyed the ride.
Well, I hope you enjoy your ride into California.
    Take care.
    Your friend,
    Mr. F.

  3. Son,
I wish you would blog before I go to bed. I stay up late waiting and waiting for it, and it never comes not until morning - reminds me of Lamentations 3:23.
Here it is so close to you finishing - I can hardly believe it much less expect it is here.
We look forward to your words of blogging tomorrow.
    Sweet dreams,
    mom
