Day #28 - 4th Of July!

Today was more of a rest day than anything. We slept in until 10 o'clock and woke up to an amazing breakfast. We're are staying at a friend's of Dave in Clay Center, Kansas.
Dave is who I am finishing the trek with. He's 19 years old and lives in Conneticut. We spent the day driving around looking for some bike lubricant, hanging out with some of Clay's [Dave's friend] friends and getting ready for fireworks. Around 8:30 we headed to where we were going to pop fireworks to get ready.

Earlier today Dave had purchased $250 worth of fireworks. That plus what Clay had came out to over $500 of fireworks for us to blow up.
It was amazing. We had over 200 mortars that we set off, it was quite the show for all of the neighbors.

We lit the fireworks right outside of town at the Murphys' house. It was fun talking to them about our trip and how we got started. Tomorrow we are leaving at 7 a.m. to bike 100 miles into Great Bend, Kansas. We hope to get to Colorado in the next 3 days. Happy 4th of July!!

  1. Hi,
I thought Dave said he was from Conneticut. Or is he going to college there?
Sounds, rather looks like you had a full arsenal. I bet that was fun lighting up.
Look forward to your next stop.
    Love you,
    Mom

  4. Stephen,
$500 worth of fireworks?! Wow! I bet that was fun.

I heard only two pops of fireworks this year. Fire ban and all of the fire work stands being closed put a huge damper on fireworks in southeast Texas.

    Take care,
    Larry F.
