Day #8 - Live a Little.

We slept in late today, got up at 7. Today we biked 26 miles, it wasn't too bad until the last 5 miles. We went up 3 big hills, one right after another. Eventually we made it to Breaks Interstate Park on the boarders of Virginia and Kentucky.

It's a pretty hilly park so we rented a golf cart for the day, it ended up being super fun to drive! We drove from overlook to overlook looking down into the Grand Canyon of the South.

Ate a marvelous lunch at the park's restaurant and then hiked a few trails. We saw a sign today saying beware of bears within the park, but Mr. G and I are hoping to see some.....just as long as they stay out of our food. Tomorrow we hope to make Hazard Kentucky, which is about 90 miles from where we sleep. So far everything is going our way. We're making great time, our gear is holding up and best of all we are eating plenty of food. The only thing bad thats really happened is a pole to my tent broke, but duct tape fixes all.
We forgot to mention, on Sunday after biking 55 miles we went to a small country church called Pioneer Baptist Church. It's service was from 11 - 12 and we really enjoyed it. They welcomed us in regardless of our appearance.

  2. Hey guys,
It sounds like you had a great day. Any bears?
You deserved a break and riding around in a golf cart all day sounds like fun. I think we need one for our scout troop! That would be a cool way to get around camp. I was wondering if you made it to church on Sunday. So, I'm glad you did. Country churches are the best. The people are usually friendly.
Have a restful night and a great day tomorrow.
    Be safe.

Plus mom of course has talked to a lot of new people and right after introducing me she tells them what you're doing. "and my son made it to nationals but couldn't come because he riding a bike."
    So yeah. :)

  5. You guys are awesome! I have one question though...Did you weigh yourselves before the trip? It will be interesting to see how much you lose.
    Happy Spinning!

  6. Stephen, there is a tent pole repair kit that has a small metal tube that you slip over the bent pole. It is long enough that it will keep the pole firm. Our Wal-Mart has them in the camping section for around $3.00. I never camp without one.
