Day #6 & #7 - You Know You're In The Wilderness When You Don't Have Service.

The morning of June 12. We left the motel around 6:30. It was a hilly ride with a gradual increase in elevation of 500 feet. The country side in Virginia is beautiful. Everyday we bike past fields of corn and wheat, forest covered mountains, and pastures of cattle and sheep. There was one area where a sheep dog was siting right in the middle of a huge field of sheep. The coolest thing ever!

We stopped for lunch in Wytheville and while eating it rained and continued to rain lightly after we got back onto the road. Ever since then the temperature has been cool and chilly. We camped in a National Forest area which is why we didn't get to update the blog last night, there wasn't any cell phone reception. Yesterday we biked 80 miles. Today was another early day at 6 o'clock and we headed up another mountain. With a big breakfast at the top of the climb we were ready to tackle the next few peaks. We actually met some more bikers today and spent a few hours with them. They're all planning on biking to Oregon.

We ended up biking all the way to Council VA, today, which put us at a total of 80 miles. It was a very tough day, and we biked over three big mountains. Well that's over 550 miles in a week, which puts us ahead of schedule so tomorrow is an easy day. Tomorrow we are sleeping in.... Yeah! Then biking just 30 miles to Breaks VA, the border of Virginia and Kentucky. Hopefully we'll see the other bikers there! We enjoy reading everyone's comments, sorry we don't reply to them, we're usually beat by the time we write our blog and then go straight to bed. Thanks for the encouraging words!

  1. Hey guys,
It was great to hear from you. You deserve a break, so take it easy tomorrow. Council must be a really small town. I couldn't find it on the map, but goggled and figure it was right past Big A Mountain.
Have a great day. Be safe!
