Day #9 - Biking In The Rain.

Off again. We decided not to get up so early now that it is cooler. So we woke up at 6:00 and were on the road by 7:15. We crossed into Kentucky in about three miles.

Kentucky is a lot different than Virginia. The roads are rougher, the homes not as nice, and dogs are chasing us.

We had five big hills that did me, Mr. G, in. Stephen had no problems. At the top of the fourth hill a thunderstorm hit. We road to the bottom of the hill and waited until the main part of the storm was over under the eaves of a gas station. The storm didn't seem to show signs of letting up so we road in the rain. Thankfully it did let up after awhile, but we still got the road spray. We finally made it to Hindman to the Knott County Historical Society. It is a bicyclists bed and breakfast. We were met by Dave with a sweet tea that had a fresh lemon and a mint leaf. We set up our tent, took showers and had our laundry done for us. We have also met up with the for bikers we met two days ago, a father and son biking team from New York and a biker from France on a recumbent. We were then treated to a huge baked sweet potato with whipped cream. Later he is going to give us ice cream.

  1. Hey Stephen and Brian,
Stephen that is a great pic of you standing on the cliff. I wish i was there. It's really HOT and DRY in Texas. 100 degrees plus.
Stephen part of your blog was lost under the picture of you at the stateline. So I'm not sure what happened after the dogs were chasing you.
The historical society sounds like a cool place to stay. Are the other bikers using the same maps thay you guys have?
Also, how far did you ride today?
    Take care and be safe!
    Mr. F.
P.S. Brian, I moved everything into your new room today. Man, you have a lot of stuff.
Kaeleigh helped me. I'm sorry, but I broke one of your toys. I pulled too hard on the string and the handle broke. It's still usable. Sorry.
